OUR BOARD

ABOUT US

Rose Ramos, Chair
Prior to her retirement, Rose spent over 25 years managing the finances and operations of public K–14 educational institutions. As a former migrant farmworker, she is deeply familiar with educational inequities and barriers facing Latino students and families. She benefited from programs such as HEP and CAMP, which provided critical pathways and support to complete her education. Her objective is to address systems that negatively impact Latino students, parents, and communities, while empowering families with the tools and information needed to dismantle educational injustices. Rose draws inspiration from her mother, who was denied access to a public education yet persevered and taught herself to read and write.

Arthur Aleman, Treasurer
Arthur Aleman is a retired carpenter, U.S. Navy combat veteran, and founder of the Joseph Bonnheim Community Charter Elementary School. He is the proud grandparent of two grandchildren enrolled in Sacramento City Unified School District. Arthur is a strong advocate for quality public education and is deeply committed to building healthier, stronger communities for and through our children.

Ramona Landeros, Vice Chair
Ramona Landeros is a former farmworker from Texas who pursued higher education at California State University, Sacramento and the University of California, Davis, with a focus on Tribal TANF Studies and community advocacy. She is a former trustee of Twin Rivers Unified School District and the founder of the Benito Juarez Foundation. Ramona has dedicated her life to uplifting underserved communities, immigrant families, and farmworker populations. Her work reflects a deep commitment to justice, cultural preservation, and expanding opportunities for voices too often overlooked.

Manuel Pickett, Secretary
Dr. Manuel Pickett is the founder of El Teatro Espejo, which recently celebrated its 50th anniversary. He served as a professor at California State University, Sacramento for 33 years until his retirement in 2012. Dr. Pickett joined the Latino Parallel School Board out of concern for the educational advancement of Latino youth and remains committed to advocacy through education, culture, and community engagement.
